Have you ever wondered if many of the diseases raging through our society have a common cause? Many doctors, naturopaths, and nutritionists believe that the explanation may come down to three words: Acid Alkaline Imbalance. In his book, Alkalize or Die, Dr. Theodore A. Researchers have scientifically proven that a balanced pH is the main component to good health. We’ve discovered that your body requires a continuous supply of alkalizing nutrients that come from living, whole foods grown in mineral rich soil in order to fuel its cells and to bullet proof you from disease.

Today’s modern diet, unfortunately, includes far too many nutrient deficient, processed foods and beverages that contain large amounts of acidic, toxic ingredients. The typical American diet is much too low in alkaline-producing foods like fresh vegetables and fruits. Our diet should contain 80% alkaline foods and 20% acidic foods. However the normal diet reverses these two numbers.

Acidosis (high acidity) can become a dangerous condition that weakens all body systems. It creates an internal environment that is ripe for disease, as opposed to a pH-balanced environment which allows the body to resist disease. An acidic condition forces the body to borrow ionic minerals (sodium, potassium, magnesium, and calcium) from the vital organs and bones to buffer (neutralize) the acid and safely remove it from the body. Nothing destroys your health more, or faster, than an internal acidic condition.

Acidosis can cause problems such as:

* cardiovascular damage (including constriction of blood vessels and the reduction of oxygen)
* weight gain, obesity, and diabetes
* bladder and kidney conditions (including kidney stones)
* lowered immunity and immune suppressed conditions
* acceleration of free radical damage (possibly contributing to cancerous mutations)
* premature aging
* low energy and chronic fatigue
* joint pain, aching muscles, and arthritis
* osteoporosis; weak and brittle bones, hip fractures, and bone spurs

The best pH for the body (we are referring to the pH of the body’s fluids and tissues, not the stomach) is 7.4 (slightly alkaline). This is where your body operates at its optimal health level. Your metabolism is high, your energy is high, and your immunity is strong.

One of the best things we can do to correct an overly-acid body is to clean up our diet and lifestyle. I recommend that if a person is truly serious about living a healthy lifestyle they need to eliminate processed foods (especially white sugar, white flour, all soft drinks, and artificial sweeteners containing aspartame), eat 80% alkalizing foods and 20% acidic foods, and be sure to include the following:
